In Loving Memory Karabo Mokoena

Karabo was a sister, a friend, and a mentor at the Frida Hartley Shelter. Despite never having stayed at the shelter herself, she was passionate about women and children’s rights, and volunteered her time here with so much love. Her compassion and strength will be remembered by all who met her.

She especially loved spending time with our women and facilitating workshops on how to Dress for success, self-love and branding yourself. Karabo was all about uplifting women and tackling issues affecting women and their children.

Karabo once said, one day my name will be on everyone’s lips, people will talk about me everywhere, my face will be on TV, My voice will be on radio and I will have overnight success that will confuse people. Books will be written about Karabo Mokoena and women’s lives will be saved because of me.

Little did we all know that her quest for fame was about to become a reality, however in the saddest manner possible.

Karabo spoke her truth, she was thought provoking, and yet so profound. She spoke from a place of love and encouragement. She will be missed for her crazy-fun sense of humour, her over-the-top personality and her unapologetic beauty.

Karabo, you are now famous my friend. However, I will tell you all about it when I see you again. Rest in peace our Queen. You will forever be in our thought and hearts. Your death will never be in vain.
